How to Update Scarlet iOS (2026 Guide)
Scarlet iOS is not on the App Store, so it does not update itself the way App Store apps do. Getting a newer version means installing the version that is currently offered over the one you have. This guide explains when you need to update Scarlet, how to do it without losing your apps, and what to do when an update does not go through. It is about Scarlet itself; for the apps you installed with Scarlet, see our guide to keeping sideloaded apps updated.
When You Need to Update Scarlet
- After a major iOS update. Older versions of Scarlet may not work on a new iOS release. Scarlet is confirmed to work on iOS 14 through iOS 26; iOS 27 is out (Apple released it on September 14, 2026), but Scarlet support on it is only reported by third parties and not officially confirmed.
- After a certificate revocation. If Scarlet suddenly stops opening, Apple has most likely revoked the certificate it was signed with. Installing the version currently offered, signed with a valid certificate, is the fix.
- When something stops working inside the app, such as the library not loading or installs failing for every app.
If Scarlet works and you have not updated iOS, there is no need to reinstall it just in case.
How to Update Scarlet iOS
- Check your iOS version in Settings, General, About, so you know which version you are on.
- Open Safari and go to the official Scarlet site or our Scarlet iOS install page. Use Safari, not another browser.
- Start the install and confirm the iOS prompt. The version that is currently offered is installed over your existing copy.
- Wait for the icon on your home screen to finish downloading.
- Trust the developer again if iOS asks. If the new version is signed with a different certificate, you will see an “Untrusted Enterprise Developer” message: go to Settings, General, VPN and Device Management, tap the developer name in the Enterprise App section and tap Trust.
- Open Scarlet and check that your library and repositories load.
The full first-time walkthrough, with the alternatives for when the direct install is not working, is in our guide on how to install Scarlet iOS.
Will I Lose My Apps or Data?
Installing a new version of Scarlet over the old one normally keeps the app in place. Apps you installed with Scarlet are separate apps on your iPhone and stay installed. Two things to know:
- Do not delete Scarlet first unless you have to. Deleting an app removes its data, such as your list of added repositories.
- Apps signed with a revoked certificate stay on your home screen but will not open until they are reinstalled with a valid certificate. Installing a newer build of the same app over the old one normally keeps its data.
Our guide on how to reinstall Scarlet iOS without losing data covers this step by step.
Updating Scarlet After an iOS Update
- Update iOS first, then open Scarlet.
- If Scarlet and your apps open normally, you are done.
- If they do not, install the version of Scarlet currently offered, as above.
- If individual apps still crash, reinstall them from Scarlet; some apps need a newer build for a new iOS version.
On a major iOS release, it is worth waiting a little and checking reports before updating if you rely on Scarlet. Our article on why sideloaded apps stop working after an iOS update explains the reasons.
If the Update Does Not Work
“Unable to Install Scarlet”
Check your connection and try again later. This message often appears while a certificate is being replaced.
Scarlet installs but will not open
Trust the new developer profile. If there is no profile to trust or it still will not open, see what to do when the Scarlet certificate is revoked.
“Unable to Verify App”
iOS could not check the certificate, often because of a network problem or a revocation. Follow how to fix Unable to Verify App.

Stay Safe When Updating
Update only from the official site or an install page you trust. “Update” links shared on forums, in video descriptions or through messages are a common way to spread modified copies, and no official “premium” or “revoke-proof” version exists. See is Scarlet iOS safe for the details.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Scarlet update automatically?
No. Scarlet is not distributed through the App Store, so there are no automatic updates. You install the version currently offered when you need it.
How do I know which version is current?
Installing from the official site or our install page always gives you the version that is offered at that moment. Our Scarlet iOS download page has the current facts.
Do I need a computer to update Scarlet?
No. The update is the same direct install in Safari on the iPhone or iPad.
Do I have to trust the profile again after every update?
Only when the new version is signed with a different certificate. If iOS does not show the “Untrusted Enterprise Developer” message, there is nothing to do.
