StikDebug: How to Enable JIT on iPhone (iOS 17.4 and Later)

StikDebug is a free, open-source app that enables JIT (just-in-time compilation) for sideloaded apps on iPhone and iPad running iOS 17.4 or later, without a computer after the first setup. JIT is what makes demanding emulators and some other apps run at usable speeds. This guide explains what JIT is, what StikDebug needs, how to set it up and which apps it works with. Facts are from StikDebug’s own GitHub page and guide. Last checked: October 27, 2026.

The Short Version

  • StikDebug describes itself as “an on-device debugger/JIT enabler for iOS versions 17.4+”. It is open source (AGPL-3.0) and had about 2,900 GitHub stars in October 2026. The latest release was 3.1.15 (October 15, 2026).
  • It is no longer on the App Store. Official downloads are the IPA on its GitHub releases page and its AltStore source on stikdebug.xyz.
  • You need a pairing file for your device (made once on a computer with iloader), the LocalDevVPN app, and Wi-Fi.
  • It only works for apps signed with a development certificate, which is what SideStore and AltStore use with a free Apple Account. Apps installed with distribution or enterprise certificates cannot get JIT this way.
  • iOS 17.4 to 18 is “fully supported”. iOS 26 is supported, but apps have to be updated by their developers to get JIT there.

What JIT Is and Why It Matters

JIT lets an app turn code into machine code while it runs. Emulators use it to translate a console’s code into code the iPhone’s processor runs directly, which is much faster than interpreting it step by step. iOS only allows JIT for an app that is being debugged, which is why App Store apps never get it and why a sideloaded app needs a tool like StikDebug to switch it on.

Many apps do not need it. PPSSPP’s developers, for example, say iPhones run nearly all PSP games at full speed without JIT (see our PPSSPP guide). JIT matters most for heavier emulation and for apps like the Minecraft Java launcher Amethyst (and the full mod mode of the Geode mod loader for Geometry Dash), whose developers say it uses JIT “to provide usable speeds”, for the GameCube and Wii emulator DolphiniOS and for the PC emulator UTM, whose App Store version UTM SE runs without JIT but much slower.

What StikDebug Can Do

From the project’s feature list:

  • JIT for sideloaded apps that have the get-task-allow entitlement
  • Scripts for automation, “mainly used for iOS 26 JIT”
  • App expiry: see when apps expire, and install or remove profiles
  • Console with live app and system logs
  • Processes: inspect running apps and end them
  • App launching, device info and a location simulator

Which iOS Versions Work

iOS version Status
Up to 17.3.x Not supported
17.4 to 18.x Fully supported
26.0 and later Supported, limited app availability

The project says iOS 17.3 and earlier use “different connection protocols”. On iOS 16 and earlier, SideStore can enable JIT itself from its My Apps page; see how to install SideStore. On iOS 26, StikDebug notes that “developers need to update their apps to work”, so check the app’s own page before you rely on JIT there.

What You Need

  • An iPhone or iPad on iOS 17.4 or later.
  • A sideloading tool that signs with a development certificate and refreshes your apps, such as SideStore or AltStore. The app you want JIT for must be installed with it.
  • A pairing file for your device. StikDebug’s guide uses iloader on a Mac, Windows PC (with iTunes) or Linux computer to make and place it.
  • LocalDevVPN from the App Store, and a Wi-Fi connection.

How to Set Up StikDebug

Step 1: Install StikDebug

Add StikDebug’s AltStore source (stikdebug.xyz) in SideStore or AltStore, or download the IPA from the project’s GitHub releases page and install it with your sideloading tool. Get it only from those two places.

Step 2: Place the pairing file

  1. Install iloader on your computer (on Windows, install iTunes first).
  2. Connect the iPhone with a USB cable and unlock it. Tap Trust if iOS asks.
  3. In iloader, click Manage Pairing File.
  4. Next to StikDebug, click Place. iloader shows “Pairing file placed successfully!” in green.

If you set up SideStore with iloader, you have already used this tool; see our SideStore setup guide.

Step 3: Enable JIT for an app

  1. Connect to Wi-Fi, open LocalDevVPN and turn the VPN on.
  2. Open StikDebug and tap Enable JIT.
  3. Select the sideloaded app from the list.

Common Problems

  • The app is not in the list or JIT fails: the app was probably signed with a distribution or enterprise certificate, which does not include get-task-allow. Install it with SideStore or AltStore instead. The Amethyst project says the same about its app: signing services that use distribution certificates are not supported.
  • “Heartbeat” errors: make sure LocalDevVPN is on and you are on Wi-Fi. It can also be a pairing file problem.
  • Pairing file errors: StikDebug’s guide warns that the pairing file expires when you update or reset the device, and “also occurs at random times”. Place a new one with iloader, with the device unlocked and trusted.
  • “Connection dropped” or loopback errors: check that your iOS version is supported, and be careful with iOS betas.

Can I Use StikDebug With Scarlet iOS?

Not for JIT. Scarlet iOS signs apps with a shared certificate, not a development certificate tied to your device, so apps installed through it do not have the get-task-allow entitlement StikDebug needs. If you need JIT, install that app with SideStore or AltStore and keep using Scarlet for other apps if you like. Our free sideloading tools compared explains the differences between the methods.

Is StikDebug Safe?

StikDebug is open source, and its code is public on GitHub. It is a debugging tool, so it can see logs and processes on your device. That is one reason to install it only from the official GitHub releases page or its own source, never from a re-upload. A pairing file gives a program trusted access to your device, so do not share yours or use one someone else sends you. As with any sideloaded app, check the apps you enable JIT for; see how to scan IPA files for malware.

FAQ

Is StikDebug free?

Yes. It is free and open source (AGPL-3.0).

Is StikDebug on the App Store?

Not anymore. The project says it is no longer available on the App Store and points to its GitHub releases and AltStore source.

Do I need a computer?

Once, to make and place the pairing file. After that, JIT is enabled on the device. You need the computer again if the pairing file expires.

Does StikDebug work on iOS 17.0 to 17.3?

No. It supports iOS 17.4 and later.

Does JIT work on mobile data?

StikDebug’s troubleshooting says to make sure you are connected to Wi-Fi with the VPN on.
